Apple to Invest $500 Billion in the U.S., Including AI Server Manufacturing

Major Investment Aims to Boost AI Capabilities and Domestic Production / AFP

Apple has announced an ambitious plan to invest $500 billion in the United States over the next four years. As part of this massive investment, the company will establish an artificial intelligence (AI) server manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas. This move comes amid growing pressure from former President Donald Trump, who has been urging Apple to shift more of its production from China to the U.S.

The company’s decision aligns with Trump’s renewed trade policies, which include increasing tariffs on Chinese imports. Apple CEO Tim Cook met with Trump last week at the White House, likely discussing the company’s strategic direction in response to these economic pressures.

Apple’s $500 Billion U.S. Investment Plan

According to reports from CNBC and other international media, Apple plans to collaborate with suppliers to build a 250,000-square-foot production center. This facility will focus on manufacturing AI-powered servers for Apple Intelligence, as well as AI-driven personal assistants for iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers. The production site is expected to be operational by next year.

Apple has also emphasized that this initiative will create approximately 20,000 new jobs across the U.S., particularly in fields such as research and development (R&D), semiconductor engineering, software development, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The company underscored that these will be high-skilled positions, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening domestic innovation.

In addition to hardware manufacturing, Apple has pledged to enhance its Apple TV+ streaming service by partnering with U.S.-based production companies to create more original content. This move is expected to further solidify Apple’s presence in the entertainment industry while contributing to the domestic creative economy.

Tim Cook expressed optimism about Apple’s future in the U.S., stating, “We are incredibly optimistic about the future of innovation in America. This $500 billion investment marks the beginning of a new chapter, strengthening our commitment to the country’s technological advancement.”

Pressure from Trump’s Tariff Policies

Apple’s decision to invest heavily in the U.S. is seen as a response to mounting pressure from Trump, who has consistently criticized the company for manufacturing most of its products overseas. The former president has repeatedly pushed for Apple to move iPhone production out of China.

Earlier this month, Trump signed an executive order increasing tariffs on Chinese imports by an additional 10%, building on the 25% tariffs imposed during his first administration. While Apple’s latest investment announcement does not immediately signal a shift in iPhone production, industry analysts suggest that the company is gradually realigning its manufacturing strategy to mitigate tariff-related risks.

Apple has also pledged to work closely with U.S. suppliers over the next four years, reinforcing its commitment to domestic production and supply chain expansion.

Apple’s Role as a Leading U.S. Taxpayer

Apple has highlighted its significant contributions to the U.S. economy, noting that it remains one of the country’s largest taxpayers. The company reported that it has paid over $75 billion in federal taxes over the past five years, with $19 billion paid in 2024 alone.

Additionally, Apple announced plans to double the size of its Advanced Manufacturing Fund (AMF) from $5 billion to $10 billion, further supporting domestic innovation in areas such as semiconductor development and high-tech manufacturing. The company will also establish a new manufacturing education program in Michigan to train the next generation of engineers and production specialists.

Despite market fluctuations affecting major tech stocks, Apple saw a slight increase in its stock price, rising by approximately 0.5% alongside Alphabet in early trading.

This historic investment signals Apple’s long-term commitment to strengthening its domestic presence, advancing AI technology, and navigating the evolving trade landscape in the U.S.
